So, what’s all this then?

If you’re here, you’re probably wondering what’s the point? Why another website?

Well, actually, this time around, it’s pretty much the same website, but I actually have a focus for it. Look, I write quite a lot. Along with that, I make music, art, and stuff like that. While I do a lot of sharing on Google+, and will continue to share a lot on Google+, I wanted to have someplace to write and share things that don’t usually fit into my “normal librarian world.”

So if you’re new here, here’s what I’m on about:

I wanted to set up a place where I could write about, well, pretty much anything, and share it. I don’t claim to be a genius or even to be a decent writer. What I do claim is that I write very often and I write a lot about a variety of things that interest me. Writing is how I focus thoughts and opinions and, hopefully, help a few other people learn the things I learned. Google+ is a great place to share that stuff, but it’s not so handy for long form writing.

WordPress is, and I love WordPress.

Okay, fine, Dan. Great. So what are you going to write about?

Well, that’s the fun thing. I don’t know. Like I said above, I write about anything I find interesting at any given time. It’s rare for me to fully lose interest in something, so I may come back and write about something I’ve not even talked about in months. Still, if you must know, here’s a short list of things that tickle my brain and produce thoughts.

  • The Internet and cyberculture
  • History
  • Science
  • Art
  • Libraries
  • Running
  • Music
  • Technology
  • New media (podcasting, video casting, etc)
  • Counterculture and culture jamming
  • Blogging (very meta, I know)
  • Books
  • News and events
  • Food
  • Television and radio
  • Fiction (As in, I occasionally write stories.)
  • The cinema
  • Critics
  • Other writers
  • Genres and genre-bending
  • Genders and gender-bending
  • Fire and water bending
  • Brian Michael Bendis (wait… I think I’ve gotten off track here.)
  • Open source
  • Philosophies
  • Cartoons and comics
  • Sex and sexuality

Keep in mind, that list can change, revise, amend, disappear, reappear, get lost, find itself, and then appear on a reality show snuggled up between Snooki’s breasts for all I know. In other words, the list is irresponsible and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

The important bit-

The important bit is simply this. I’m going to write stuff, put it here, and hope you’ll be entertained and informed. I don’t write in an academic style because that’s boring. I don’t often cite sources because most people don’t care. In the end, if you like to read, I think you’re going to have a fairly decent time.

Right on, we’ll get started in the next day or so. I’m already working on stuff.
